Saratoga Springs Dog-Friendly Downtown Launch

If you are in upstate New York and own a (or several) dogs, there is an event you must check out this weekend – the Dog-Friendly Downtown Launch.

Launched by Sloppy Kisses and Saratoga Arts, the initiative’s goal is to get businesses in Saratoga Springs to join together to become a downtown area that is dog friendly. The first part of the day, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. will be a scavenger hunt for you and your dog followed by a Yappy Hour at Putnum Den from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.

To date, 32 businesses are part of Dog-Friendly Downtown. Dog owners can identify dog-friendly businesses via a window decal that is prominently displayed by participating businesses.

Unfortunately, I have a prior engagement at The Sagamore, so Toby and I can’t make it, but I am so excited about this! I love taking for Toby for walks in Saratoga Springs and it’s good to know there will be more places we can visit, or grab a bite to eat while walking the beautiful downtown.

We at My Tail Hurts From Wagging So Much hope more towns in the Adirondacks — and all over for that matter — adopt similar policies! Dog owners are consumers, too and being able to bring our dogs with us to places rate pretty high in our book. I know I frequent more places that let me bring Toby with me than those that don’t.

  1. You know where this would be great, in Woodbridge. There are tons of places that should be dog friendly in that area but they aren't.

  2. we weren't going to bring the dog to the Phish concert, but maybe we will if we can find a pet sitter for while we are at the concert.

  3. since it's SARATOGA, shouldn't the downtown be (wait for it) … horse-friendly! *ba-dum-bum*

  4. Thanks so much for the post! My co-founder and I are thrilled that the Dog-Friendly Downtown Program has been such a success in Saratoga Springs. If anyone is looking for more information or in starting a similar program in their town, feel free to contact us.
