Iams Home 4 the Holidays Pet Rescue Campaign

This holiday season Iams Home 4 the Holidays has set out to help save the lives of 1.5 million homeless animals as part of their annual pet adoption drive.

The pet food company has five different ways you can get involved: find the perfect companion for your family using PetFinder, “like” Iams on Facebook and they will donate meals to shelters in need, purchase a specially marked bag of Iams and food will be donated to a local shelter, or make a difference by volunteering at a shelter near you.

While we at My Tail Hurts From Wagging So Much do not believe in giving pets as gifts, we do think giving a homeless animal a home around the holidays not only brings joy to you and your family, but also the animal involved. I mean, really,  who wouldn’t want to have a dog running around in the wrapping paper on Christmas morning? Plus, any attempt to save a homeless pet’s life, we love to get behind.

The Iams Home 4 the Holidays campaign runs started Oct. 1, and so far 51,235 adoptions have been made and 7,297 meals have been donated. All that, only after two weeks! I can’t imagine what the numbers will be when the drive is over on Jan. 4, 2011.

Iams is partnering with the 3,500 animal organizations in 21 countries around the world to make their campaign a success, including the Helen Woodward Animal Center. If you remember, Mike Arms, from the California center gave a talk to the BlogPaws West crowd in Denver that had all of us in tears.

“Pet homelessness is an epidemic in our country and many animal organizations look to programs like Iams Home 4 the Holidays to help drive families to our centers to see these amazing animals,” said Mike Arms, founder of the adoption drive and president of Helen Woodward Animal Center in a prepared press release. “We’ve been a part of the adoption drive for 12 years now and have really seen the benefit of what this program can do for animals, our employees and the families who adopt.”

So make sure you “like” their page and spread the word about the adoption drive and help save a homeless pet this holiday season! Also, follow Iams Home 4 the Holidays on Twitter, and check back here for updates on how the adoption drive is doing.
