Tail Wagging News: Canine Hero of the Year, Cesar Partners With AHA & FIDO Friendly Contest

There certainly is a lot going on this week in the dog news world. But first, we want to extend our prayers for all the animals and human impacted by the earthquake in Japan. I saw a comment early this morning on Twitter about today’s events that struck me and wanted to share with everyone, because I think it’s a good reminder about life:

On to the news of the week, including two dog related contests!

Dog Fancy’s Working Canine Hero of the Year Contest

In honor of the 10th anniversary of Sept. 11, Dog Fancy will be recognizing those dogs and their handlers who work with the U.S. military, police and search-and-rescue teams. These dogs work side-by-side in dangerous situations to help keep the public safe.

If you know of a working dog, or handler K9 team, that deserves recognition, share their story on Dog Channel, Dog Fancy’s sister website.

Cesar Canine Cuisine Partners with American Humane Association on Therapy Dogs and Hero Dog Awards

Cesar Canine Cuisine is partnering with the AHA, and their new “Hero Dogs” initiative, which recognizes the thousands of dogs who as therapy dogs, create an extraordinary relationship between them and their patients.

The dog food company presented AHA a check for $100,000 Wednesday during the animal group’s National Humanitarian Awards Luncheon at Mar-a-Largo in West Palm Beach, Fla. to help kick off the program.

Also during the luncheon, Martha Stewart was presented with the AHA’s National Humanitarian Medial of Honor.

News about therapy dogs always hits a soft spot for me, because while Toby is not a certified therapy dog, he does go almost everyday to see my mom, who is in a nursing home. It’s so amazing to see her, and the other people there, light up and get such joy after they see and play with Toby.

FIDO Friendly Magazine Peeps Contest

Seriously, who doesn’t love Peeps?! Even if you are like me, and don’t eat them, they are cute, fun to watch expand in the microwave and are a sign of Spring being right around the corner.

FIDO Friendly thinks they’re fun and is sponsoring a contest seeking your most creative dog-oriented scene using the sugary, marshmallow treats. There are tons of prizes for the top Peeps pics.
