Freezy Pups Kit Review and Giveaway

As soon as I walked up to the Freezy Pups‘ booth at the Global Pet Expo last month I was hooked. An adorable bone shaped ice cube tray that you could make organic, frozen bone-shaped treats for your dog? Yes, please!

Turned out, other pet industry professionals were equally impressed, as the the product had won 1st place in the natural category during the show.

Developed by Heather Klemm, a California-based dog trainer with 17 years experience, a Freezy Pups kit comes with everything you need to make your dog a delicious treat that also hydrates — making it perfect for a hot summer day.

The kit, with a suggested retail price of $19.99, includes the tray and a packet of each of the organic treat flavors: chicken soup recipe, white cheddar cheese, banana honey and sweet potato n’ maple. Refill packs are available.

Klemm told us the idea for Freezy Pups came about after years of telling her clients to freeze chicken broth instead of just freezing plain water to give to their dogs as a warm weather treat.

We tested out a kit over the weekend. They were fast to make, are adorable and gave Toby some added nutrition.

All you do is heat 7 ounces of hot water, stir in the packet (we used the chicken soup one), pour the liquid into the tray and stick it in the freezer.

Once they are completely frozen, pop one out and give it to your pup. Toby couldn’t wait to get his paws on one. You can also let one, or two melt and top your dog’s food with it. I did that after Toby didn’t really seem interested in eating, and he devoured his dinner.

Finding out there was no peanut butter left in my cabinet, which I normally stuff Toby’s Kong with, I put one of the Freezy Pup treats inside. It kept Toby amused for a very good amount of time.

Now for the fun part!

  1. Beaux's FAVORITE treat in the whole world is "Cubeies"(Ice Cubes). This is such an AWESOME idea!! he has a lot of stomach issues, so ever since he was a puppy we have been using Ice Cubes as treats. We will sometimes fill up his water bowl with "Cubeies" so he has somthing to crunch on. He loves them so much he has almost figured out how to open the freezer drawer! He is such a silly pup!!

  2. Freezy Pups look like such a cool treat! (No pun intended.) Jack is a Canadian pooch, so we can't enter the contest, but we'll be keeping an eye out for them to hit our local stores.

  3. I think my dog Bo would just love the banana honey. He's had frosty paws before and loved them. We are going to have to try these!

  4. My dogs love anything with peanut butter if you unscrew the jar they come running. I think my dogs would like the white cheddar cheese since they love cheese too.

  5. Claire would really like the chicken broth recipe – I already follow you on Google Friend Connect, have tweeted about it (LifeWithClaire), and am leaving this comment right now!

  6. Our current favorite frozen treat is Yoghund, which is made locally in NH. Although we are excited to try the new individual Frosty Paws bites from Purina.
