Here is what the reader who nominated them had to say:
“I nominate Sedalia Animal Shelter in Sedalia, Mo. I volunteered with them for two years, and rural shelters face incredible challenges, both in terms of funding and attitudes about companion animals. Not to mention Sedalia was hit by an F2 tornado in late May, which destroyed businesses and homes and displaced both people and animals …”
On our Facebook page, the reader also added:
“I’d like to nominate Sedalia Animal Shelter for the Pedigree prize! I volunteered with them for two years, and they do great work despite huge challenges. Missouri is a big puppy mill state, and attitudes about companion animals are much different there than they are around here! I know they could really use the money and the people work really hard to help all the animals that come through their doors.”
A few days after the reader posted about this, the shelter posted that they needed a new dryer because it had just died on them, which was added to the shelter’s nomination on our Facebook page.
Thanks to Allison Elyse Gualtieri who nominated them, and congrats to the Sedalia Animal Shelter!
