L.A. Passes New Vicious Dog Law; NYPD Rescues Shepherd & Saturday Blog Hop

Happy Saturday! For some reason I couldn’t wait for the weekend to come this week. Can you believe it’s almost August already? So crazy!

There were several news stories that caught our attention this week, and if you follow us on Facebook, you may have noticed we posted links out to them. The first was the story of Charlie, a German Shepherd, who was rescued by two quick-thinking NYPD officers who noticed the dog struggling in the waters 2 miles off the Brooklyn.

“It’s not like he’s just a dog,” Irina Frid, told the Daily News. “He’s a family member.”

For the second story, we head over to the opposite coast, where the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors passed a new vicious dog law that an animal right attorney claims is too vague.

“It’s going to subject innocent dogs, who the statute wasn’t meant to apply to, to euthanasia because of the language,” Jill Ryther, told the L.A. Times. But, Animal Care and Control officials say the law is needed to prevent people whose dogs are deemed vicious from moving across county lines.

Later on today we’ll be posting the winner of our Beneful dog food contest, and either today or tomorrow we’ll be posting our next review and giveaway! So make sure you stop back for the chance to win some cool prizes. For now, enjoy the blog hop 🙂

Here’s a hint at what our next giveaway is:

  1. Hi there- found you through the hop and am a new follower. I just joined your hop as well(does the blog have to be about pets, or just posts?) I was bitten by a rottie on my forearm- I was a stranger, and it wasn't vicious, but it was still scary! I hope you have time to follow my life in South Africa by http://withoutcomplexities.blogspot.com

I hope you have a great week!

  2. I looked at the picture, thought you were giving a wet Toby away in a giveaway, and got all excited.

Then I figured that probably wasn't what you were saying.

Thanks for providing a sweet picture after posting about the LA law. That's so tragic.
