A Dating Website for Mountain Lions?

Always on the lookout for a new business opportunity and the desire to help animals, my next venture just might be a dating site for mountain lions.

No, really.

The Pulitzer Prize winning Post Star is reporting that DNA taken from a mountain lion killed in Connecticut two months ago by a car, passed through the Adirondacks in upstate New York, while searching for a mate.

According to the newspaper, the mountain lion was from South Dakota and is believed to have traveled north through Canada before coming to New York and then finally heading to Connecticut.

And, I thought I was picky when it came to dating….   😉

On a serious note, the story is fascinating. The mountain lion was able to be tracked using DNA from fur left behind, photographs and other biological evidence. Some pretty neat science going on.

You can read the full story, and see a picture of the paw print left behind, on the newspaper’s website.
