How to Train Your Human for a Successful BlogPaws

BlogPaws is one of my favorite trips. But, it can also be a little stressful for us pets, because it’s like doggie heaven! There’s so many people to meet, pets to play with and information to learn, that you can easily get overwhelmed.

It’s pretty exhausting! This photo was of me after my first day of the very first BlogPaws in Ohio.

Here are a few tips to help make the most out of your BlogPaws experience.

Put your best paw forward

There are a lot of people at BlogPaws, and you want to make a good impression. Make sure your human puts your favorite leash and harness on you, and if there’s one time to be on your best behavior it would be now. (This last part is a total do as say, not as I do situation)

Oh, and have them give you a bath, or take you to the groomer, before the event so you look your cutest!

Pawwork

Put down the iPad (don’t you think they should call it an iPaw instead?) and talk to people. Say hi to other pets (even if it’s a cat, or ferret,…they are bloggers, too!)

Make sure your human has business cards for either you or them so people can get in touch with you after the conference.

Stop and introduce yourself to the companies that are at BlogPaws. It’s always good for them to be able to put a face to a blog.

When you’re playing in the dog park, don’t just sit in the corner. If you see other pups playing, introduce yourself and ask if you can join in (just don’t immediately grab their toy if they’re playing with one)

Be Prepared

My Mom always has a ‘go bag’ packed for me. It includes all the essentials – a copy of my vaccines, extra food, treats, first aid items, extra leashes and collars, toys, poop bags and any medicine I may need.

Also in the bag is trial-size cleaners, just in case I get excited and have an accident — especially important when staying at a hotel.

Oh, and make sure they bring your favorite toy. One mention of playing with my Kong and any anxiety I had is forgotten about, because all I want to do is play.

Keep a Short Leash on Your Human

While you may not be able to go to all the session with them, make sure they taking notes, asking questions and engaging with others.

The whole conference is about social media, so remember to be social!

Don’t let them too far out of your site because, to be very frank, a lot of people know who we are because it’s our avatar on Twitter, so people will recognize us before them.
.
Have Fun

This is the most important thing to remember! Yeah, you want to learn as much as you can, but you also want to meet new people and connect in person with the people you talk to over Twitter everyday.

  1. Toby, thank you so much for posting this … I just shared it with Lucky. We are both newbies this year and he was wondering just what Mom had gotten him into … your tips helped put his mind at ease. He looks forward to meeting you next week!

  2. Great advice buddy! Mom's going again this year, but I'll be staying at the Barker Lounge while she's gone. She'll be bringing flat Prudence w/her!
