Road Trip: Fun or Freak Out?

The best part about a three day weekend is the short work week. At least that’s what Toby thinks.

He was so confused tonight, because instead of taking our car we drove up state in his Aunt Vikki and Uncle Les’ car. For a majority of the ride, he had a panicked look on his face.

While Toby loves to travel, he does get freaked out easily when we’re in a different car, and  to be honest, so do I sometimes. It’s not because of the other people, it’s because of Toby.

Where will he sit? What will happen if we have to stop? What if he started begging to get out and pee?  Leather seats … what if scratches them?

These are all the questions that go through my head — which is why I usually drive.

I always bring extra towels or blankets to put down for Toby, because he sheds so much. Last fall, when we traveled with his Aunt Kelly and Uncle Roger’s car, I secured Toby’s leash around my seat belt and he gladly snuggled in next to me on the seat with the occasional hop onto my lap.

Tonight, his Aunt Vikki — who tipped us off to the story that New Jersery’s ‘Click It or Ticket’ campaign applies to pets, too — insisted we take his crate in their car. It was extremely nice of them, because while his crate is small, it still takes up room. But, as she pointed out, if {god-forbid} something happened Toby would be safe.

What do you do with your pets when you’re traveling in other people’s vehicle?

  1. Hey Toby, Jet here. Hi Miss Michelle.

We've never gone in someone else's car. In our car Mom uses our harnesses which come with a special seat belt attachment with a carabiner. Mom uses a seat cover since Toby's shedding would be a 1 on our scale of 11!

Btw, Mom hails from NJ… which part were you visiting???

  2. Hi Y'all,

Hey, I ride in a crate. Now that I'm older my Human is going to get me a new seat belt. I ate the last one and even chewed the seat belt. Hated it! They still plan to try again.

How y'all doin'? Just hoppin' by for a visit. Hope y'all are having a fantastic and fun weekend!

    Y'all come by now,
    Hawk aka BrownDog

  3. ooh Toby buddy! You look like you need a hug! When I'm in the car, I wear a harness, that clips to the seat belt, in the back seat. So far I've never been in anyone else's car but mom's.

  4. We've actually never put Buster and Ty in anyone else's car. I assume that my family has seen the inside of our car, with the dog hair imbedded in the upholstery and never volunteered to drive. And I can't blame them!
