A Little Dog-Friendly Shopping

It always upsets me that so many stores are not dog friendly, and that I can’t bring Toby into them. But, luckily that wasn’t the case when we decided to stop at the Vera Bradley outlet in New York last night — and they made a sale, as well as life-long customer because of it.

My friend called ahead when we decided we might stop and asked if they were dog friendly, and if I could carry my small, little dog into the store. When they said, yes, we immediately got off the exit and headed there.

I carried Toby, whose leg is still hurting, through the store and the associates greeted him and said hello. They even said I could put Toby down. Wait, what? I can shop and have Toby by my side, and not try to balance him in one arm and look at weekend bags in the other?!

I’m not a must-have type of brand/label person. But, after previously finding several small items in the Vera Bradley store that were super functional, I was interested in looking at some of their other items this time — like their mini-computer case.

Now, granted, it is an outlet store and they also just happened to be offering 50 percent off every item in the store, including clearance, but, I walked out of there with $100 worth of stuff that yes, I needed, but could have bought other places.

A large part of the reason they made my sale last night was because they were dog-friendly. Since I was able to walk around the store with my dog and not have to either leave him in the car and worry if he was ok for the 20 minutes we were in there, or wait outside with Toby while my friend shopped, I was instead able to do a little shopping in a place that welcomed my dog.

And, that my friends, will make me a Vera Bradley fan for life.

Toby’s only complaint? They had nothing for him. I would love for them to come out with a dog bag!

  1. We have an shopping village by us that has about 50 stores….Lululemon, Crate and Barrel, Williams Sonoma, Sephora, Banana Republic, Gap and a lot of other high-end shops…and the whole place is dog friendly! Dogs are welcome in all of the outdoor areas AND inside the store. Yes, walking. I guess we are pretty lucky. I am glad you got lucky at this store too.

  3. I also hate shops that do not allow pets to be with owners. I mean, what are they suppose to do outside the store while owners shop? I also checked out this Vera Bradley store, I wish they would release dog carriers that would match their comforters. I suddenly felt excited! Then maybe they can start releasing dog clothing and shoes! I can't get enough of dog accessories because of this article, it made me buy more clothes for my terrier:
