Chicken & Oat Meatball Dog Treats

If any of you have done agility, or any other type of dog training, they always tell you to have high-value treats to get your dog to do things they don’t want to do.

Maddux is so food motivated, he will usually go for any treat, but when we do agility, specifically the dog walk, he needs a high-value treat. One of our last classes, they gave us meatballs to use.

Although you are giving it to them in small portions, there are sometimes ingredients in the meatballs that I don’t want him have, so I decided to make my own, and see how it worked.

Toby and Maddux have been going crazy for them, and they are actually not a bad treat for either of them. There are only four ingredients, are super fast to make and you can eat them, too if you want. They are a little bland, but not terrible.

Chicken & Oat Meatball Dog Treats

what I used …

1 pound ground chicken

1 cup oats

1 egg

2 heaping tablespoons parsley

what I did …

Preheat your oven to 375 degrees. (I use the toaster oven)

Combine all the ingredients in a bowl and mix until everything is evenly incorporated. Let sit for five minutes.

In the meantime, spray a broiler pan.

Form the mixture into balls, and cook for 10-14 minutes depending on the size of the meatballs.

Let cool on a paper towel, and then refrigerate. You can also freeze them, and take them out when needed.

Let me tell you how much restrain this “leave it” took! The boys are loving these treats and I hope your pups will, too. Just a side note, Maddux kicked butt at class last night. I can’t decide if it was the meatballs, or the anti-anxiety pill I took before hand. But, either way, he these treat definitely helped him with the dog walk!
