Gluten-Free Pumpkin Heart Dog Treats

Toby and Maddux went crazy for these homemade gluten-free pumpkin heart dog treats. And, to be honest, I didn’t think they tasted that bad either.

The recipe originated from a gluten-free pumpkin doughnut hole recipe I created for people. Toby, was glued to the oven as the smell from them cooking was starting to spread through the house. It was then that I realized it would be super easy to modify the recipe and turn them into dog treats.

And, since they both call for speciality flours, it makes sense that you can make multiple things from the same ingredients.

Gluten-Free Pumpkin Heart Dog Treats

what I used …

1/2 cup buckwheat flour

1/2 cup oat flour

1/2 cup coconut flour

3 tablespoons coconut oil

3 eggs, lightly beaten

1/4 cup honey

3/4 cup pumpkin puree

What I did …

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees and line a cookie sheet with parchment paper.

In a large bowl whisk together the buckwheat flour, oat flour and coconut flour.

In a medium bowl melt the coconut oil. Then, add to it the eggs, pumpkin and honey. Whisk together.

Using a wooden spoon, stir the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients until combined.

Working in small batches, spoon the mixture into a resealable plastic bag. Cut a small snip in the bottom corner of the bag, and draw your hearts. (Or whatever design you want. In addition to hearts, I also drew circles and spelled out letters.)

Bake for about 17-20 minutes, depending the thickened of the treats.
