Pumpkin Chicken Oat Meatballs Dog Training Treats

Yeah, I know, what you’re thinking, “another meatball recipe?!”

Seriously though, with both dogs in agility training classes and Bear also in obedience classes, we go through a lot of treats! Since they tend to get bored with the same ones, I have been making a wide variety to switch it up for them.

Plus, as I have mentioned before I believe it is healthier and more cost-effective to make my own treats than buy them. Yes, it takes time, but just like in human cooking and baking, if you do it in batches, it makes it much easier.

1/2 pound ground chicken

1/4 cup oat flour

1/4 cup pure pumpkin (not pumpkin pie filling)

Preheat oven to 400 degrees.

Combine all the ingredients in a bowl and mix well.

Using your hands form into small to medium size meatball shapes.

Place on a broiler pan or on a parchment paper-lined cookie sheet.

Bake for 15-20 minutes or until cooked.

Remove from the pans and let cook completely before using as treats.

Refrigerate up to a week or place in the freezer for later use.

Notes:

  • I make a large batch and then freeze most of them. I take them out of the freezer the morning before my evening class.
  • You can cut the meatballs into multiple tiny pieces that are good for training.
  • If the ground chicken isn’t forming well, you can always add extra flour as needed.

Enjoy!
